Jim Achenbach resides in Collinsville, IL with his wife and three children. A graduate of the University of Illinois, Jim works as a technical sales engineer in the pharmaceutical industry. Jim’s ancestral roots run deep in Illinois history. His family tree includes Civil War veterans from both the Illinois 7th Cavalry and the Illinois 41st Infantry, including Great Uncle George Washington Hendrickson of Fayette County, Illinois who was killed in action on the first day of fighting at Shiloh.

Jim is an Eagle Scout and an active member and leader in the Boy Scouts of America. An accomplished French hornist, he regularly plays in a number of community bands and brass ensembles in the area. He also serves as a member of the Collinsville Community Unit School District #10 Board of Education.

Jim has played both the Eb alto horn and Bb cornet in the 33rd Band. He has an interest in the history of American brasswind makers and is involved in research of the band’s original period instruments. He, like all the members of the 33rd, enjoys the professionalism and camaraderie of his fellow band musicians.
